Dear Parents and Families,
I am writing to make you aware of a campus-wide communication that was distributed to students yesterday, as well as some FAQs from the University Health Center that include important information for parents/families about health concerns.
Campus communication: https://health.umd.edu/adenovirus-information
Adenovirus FAQs: https://health.umd.edu/adenovirus-faqs
As is stated in the FAQs, there have been reports of six cases of students with confirmed adenovirus associated illness.
Whether your student is traveling for Thanksgiving break or remaining in College Park, please be mindful that if your student has chronic medical problems like asthma, diabetes or illnesses that lower their immune system or if they take medicine that lowers their immune system, it is vitally important not to ignore cold or flu-like symptoms and visit a personal physician within 48 hours of developing symptoms.
The University Health Center operates according to the University of Maryland academic schedule and is closed for Thanksgiving break on Thursday, November 22 - Sunday, November 25. Students can contact the University Health Center during regular business hours at (301) 314-8180 or send a message to their provider atmyuhc.umd.edu for medical advice if they are unsure of what to do after reviewing the information contained in the links provided above.
